Lesson Plan for May 31st: 3rd teaching day

Our third teaching day at Ikamvalesizwe was mostly review and further practice of what our students did the previous day. That day, we used the WWW What=2 How=2 story writing formula to start brainstorming our own story we would write as a class.  This was our plan for the Language Arts portion:

Objective: Students will be able to write a story together using the WWW What=2 How=2 formula.

Procedure:
-Start with the WWW What=2 How=2 dance as a warm-up
-Pin up the story chart and finish the parts of the story they wrote together
-Write the story together in sentence form
-Read the story together
-Act out the story together

For further practice:
-Pin up the story "The Sly Fox"
-Read "The Sly Fox" together
-Identify WWW What=2 How=2 and underline each part in a different color

Break and transition to maths

The long-term goal for them is to identify parts in a longer story and have them write their own stories either individually or in pairs. We will also be introducing new English vocabulary words for them to practice and use in stories. The difficulties that arose for them during this lesson was that they could easily express their ideas in isiXhosa, but lacked the English vocabulary to say what they wanted.
